My name is Mike Sell, and I'm running for U.S. House in Florida's 4th Congressional District as a Forward Party candidate. Not left, not right, forward. I am not a career politician. I was raised in a Navy family, started working in high school, and built a career in operational excellence, the work of fixing complex, broken systems and making them serve people better. Most of that was inside the U.S. healthcare industry, where I helped save more than a quarter of a billion dollars, not by cutting care, but by cutting the waste and dysfunction that drain it. I founded a not-for-profit on the belief that access to information is a right, and I'm a husband and a father of grown children. I'm running because those who are aware and have the capacity to help are obligated to act. I've spent twenty years fixing broken systems, and our politics is the most broken one I've seen, built to answer to money and party instead of people. I take no corporate money, so I answer only to this district. I'm running to give the people here a real choice, and to represent the ones this system has taken for granted for too long.
Roles: More than two decades in operational excellence and organizational leadership, primarily inside the U.S. healthcare industry. Senior Director roles in project management, innovation, business development, and population-health interoperability at a major national healthcare organization (2018–present). Interim Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging. Founder & CEO of CCM, an information and technology not-for-profit (2021–present). Earlier Lean Six Sigma and HR roles at a global HR services firm and a major health insurer. Credentials: Six Sigma Black Belt, Shingo Operational Excellence Assessor. Years in field: 20+ years.
None personally. I come from a three-generation Navy family: my grandfather (26 years, four submarine tours), my father (20 years, retired at NAS Jacksonville), and both of my brothers.
Prior runs / offices held: None. This is my first run for public office. Party and civic roles: I am running as a Forward Party candidate. Over the past year I have helped lead a local Indivisible chapter, including work to find and support good candidates for this community. Leadership and founding roles: Advisory Board Member and Partner with the E3 Business Group started in 2009, focused on civil rights and social action. I helped launch Club Blu, the young professionals group at the Boys and Girls Club, and volunteered with the Boys and Girls Clubs. I am the founder and CEO of CCM, an information and technology not-for-profit. I also spent fifteen years founding and leading workplace diversity organizations, including one of the country's first generational-diversity groups. Democracy and reform organizations: Member or supporter of Common Cause, the Move to Amend Coalition, GoodParty.org, and the Roosevelt Institute. Civic, cultural, and environmental organizations: Member or supporter of the Indian Cultural Society of Jacksonville, Democracy Now!, The Workers Circle, The School for Moral Ambition, the World Wildlife Fund, the Arbor Day Foundation, and the National Parks Conservation Association.
